In 1997, Mojo first came together in
Madrid as a blues jazz quintet.
The characteristic sound of the group comes from an intense
dedication to playing live concerts throughout the Madrid jazz circuit as
well as the whole of Spain.
The
musical repetoire explores a wide gamut of styles that come from the
afro-American tradition (Blues, Jazz, Soul, Funk, Reggae, etc.) expressed
by there own tunes and versions composed by artists such as Lee Morgan,
Stevie Ray Vaughan, James Brown, Lester Bowie, Charles Mingus, Thelonious
Monk and others.
The Mojo musical style is based from the concept of tasteful
arrangements and a place for improvisation and self expression of each
musician. Perhaps the most important element is the rhythmic conception of
the band which is truly steeped in cohesive
authenticity.
